Call to action against Transnational petroleum companies and for solidarity with Bolivia
We support the Bolivian people in their struggle against pressuring by and crimes by major multinational petroleum corporations.
This week and the following, two petroleum companies (Total y Shell) will have their annual shareholders meetings. As many of you know, the petroleum corporations that are operating in Bolivia have pillaged the resources of this country, flaunted national laws, and caused grave damages to indigenous communities and the environment.
We now have a great opportunity to make these corporations hear the message of the Bolivian people: "Bolivia has the sovereign right to control its natural resources!"
Organize a protest outside a shareholder meeting or stage a demonstration of support outside the Bolivian Embassy in your country. It doesn't have to be a huge event - a few people with signs is enough. If you send a photo and a description of the event to: solidarity_bolivia@yahoo.com, we can share it with the Bolivian press where it will have great impact and can help to strengthen the social struggles for the recovery of natural resources.
Below are the dates of shareholder meetings and the addresses of the companies' headquarters (however, please confirm the location of the meetings before you take action).
Please forward this call on to your contacts in France and England.
